How to Relax And Unwind After A Long Day at Work

Work can be so draining sometimes! There’s always a few days a week where I feel like I physically and mentally just “can’t” anymore. My head starts to hurt, I get really tired and I can’t wait for the weekend. When work gets you down, here are a few things you can do to relax, unwind, and let all of that negative energy go!

Disconnect Your Devices to Unwind

Take some well deserved R&R and put that computer away! Exit out of your email, close your laptop, and don’t go back to it for the rest of the night. After that, ignore any non urgent work texts or emails that pop up on your phone. This is YOUR time, and you need to establish boundaries and have a good work-life balance!

Relax by Reading a Great Book

Pick up a book that you enjoy reading. I’m not talking about an educational or motivational book, unless that’s what you’re into! Find a book that you can read for hours on end. For me, reading books is the best way to get out of my head as it allows me to zone into someone else’s world for a while!

Decompress by Going On a Walk

In this weird period of time during COVID, I realized walking can be really therapeutic! Plug in your headphones, put on your walking shoes, and take a stroll! You’ll be more in touch with your body and will definitely feel relaxed afterwards.

Light Some Candles to Alleviate Stress

There’s just something about having an amazing smelling candle light up your room…especially when you’re cozy in bed! Every time I light candles, my stress melts away.

Wind Down with a Relaxing Massage

Can’t say I haven’t done this to relax and unwind on a weekday after work before…sometimes it’s much needed! You can use Groupon and quickly find salons at discounted prices near your area.

Kick back and Start a New Hobby

This can be a mindless way to allow yourself to really disconnect and take time doing something you love. Finding a hobby doesn’t have to be difficult, either. For inspiration: You can take an online yoga class, buy a $5 canvas and paint, get a coloring book, make a rug, or play a musical instrument!

Here are some great options:

Pamper Yourself By Getting Your Nails Done

Pre COVID, my work best friend and I would get our nails done together every other week! The massage chairs and foot scrubs together really do some work….

Put on a Face Mask and Relax

You can kill two birds with one stone! Relax and unwind for the night by pampering your skin by applying a face mask, you’ll completely forget about your work stresses!
