10 Simple Ways to Take Care of Yourself

It’s easy to get caught up in your day and forget to make time for yourself. Finding small ways to improve every day will allow you to be the best version of yourself. Here are 10 simple ways you can take care of yourself everyday!

Move around every 30 minutes

I’ve heard that “sitting” is the new “smoking.”

Do I know if this is absolutely true? No, but I’d rather not find out the hard way!

Whether you choose to walk around, stretch, or workout, make sure you move around throughout the day to take care of yourself! Sitting tells your body that you don’t need energy to move.

Moving around will help you feel more energetic and awake and is also really good for you! You will feel more refreshed after doing so and will be able to work more effectively after you take a break.

Eat food that makes you feel good

A good way to watch what you eat is to simply eat food that makes you feel good and stop eating food that doesn’t. If you ate one cookie, you would probably feel fine. But if you ate ten cookies, you probably wouldn’t be feeling your best. If you just think about how you feel after, you can make healthier eating choices everyday.

Don’t eat 2 hours before bedtime

Take care of yourself by allowing your body to get into the sleeping zone. Don’t allow your body to waste your energy processing food. Sleep correlates to your eating habits! A lot of people that have trouble sleeping eat a lot of food or unhealthy food right before they go to sleep. Try and detox your body at night and allow it to focus on helping you get to sleep and stay asleep.

Drink ~64 oz of water every day

I have always struggled with drinking water and would barely drink water throughout the day. What changed this for me was getting a wattle bottle I really liked! With the water bottle I chose, I only need to fill it up twice a day and it has a straw!

As weird as it sounds, it made drinking water so easy for me, because it’s now convenient and easy. I fill it up in the morning, have it right next to me throughout the day, and fill it up one more time in the afternoon or evening. Buy a water bottle that you like, fill it up and keep it near you all day.

Express gratitude every day

Expressing gratitude reminds you that you have things you should be thankful for. And being thankful for what you have generates a positive mentality and attitude. You’ll be able to reach your goals and have a more productive day with positivity!

Schedule time for yourself

Take care of yourself by taking a break and doing an activity you enjoy! Whether its reading a book, watching TV, going for a walk, playing with your puppy, eating dinner with friends, or finding a new hobby, find ways to de-stress after your day and relax. If you don’t take time for yourself, and you keep running on high energy, you will burnout!

Set boundaries to take care of yourself

Take care of yourself by learning when you need to say no. Don’t overwork yourself every day or force yourself to work on projects that you really don’t have the time or energy for. Chances are, you’ll end up helping out but it won’t be your best work.

Take time to relax, reset and recharge. When you’ve taken the time you need for yourself, you can then seek out additional work and responsibilities.

Reduce the amount of stress in your life

No one likes being stressed out or feeling like they’re not in control of their lives. Reducing the amount of stress in your life will help you take care of yourself during the short and long term. Write down the top three things that have been stressing you out each day or week and find ways to control those situations. Seek to find an underlying issue and try and tweak your life to edit that out.

Reflect on your day

Spend time each night reflecting on your day. Highlight your successes and opportunities. What can you do to be better tomorrow? Think of ways to be more productive, reach your goals, and get to where you want to be. You can also take this time to get organized and come up with a plan for your next day!

Each day is a stepping stone, and it’s up to you to carve that path!

Take micro steps to take care of yourself

Realize that you don’t need to change everything about yourself or your life all at once. However, taking one small step each day could help you work towards a better future, slowly but surely. Choose one micro step each week and continuously take care of yourself, one step at a time!
